The team and the role
The Transportation team has a wealth of experience and will offer support, development opportunities and expert advice. Working as part of our national division, you will gain experience of working on projects with colleagues based in other offices and you will be exposed to a wide variety of project work across different sectors.
As a Transport Consultant/Graduate Transport Planner, you will be providing transport inputs relating to clients’ development proposals and will work towards solutions which are acceptable to all stakeholders. You will have a varied portfolio of clients, and the ability to articulate and communicate planning ideas, concepts and proposals is essential.

Working as part of a highly motivated team, you will encounter a diverse range of assignments, which will enhance and develop your skills in:
Providing planning-stage support for a variety of development schemes
Support the preparation of technical assessment documents and reports for planning submissions
Support the technical assessments of junction performance using a range of industry-standard traffic modelling software
The drafting of Travel Plans and sustainability assessments
Pedestrian and cycle route design
General arrangement design work for new junctions and accesses onto the road network
Accompanying Senior Consultants at project meetings and on-site visits
Providing support for planning Appeals/Public Inquiries etc
Client liaison and business development.

The attributes we seek:
Strong written, numerical and verbal communication skills and a client-focussed approach to work
Enthusiastic and industrious with a willingness to learn new skills
Experience of data analysis, interpretation and presentation, in particular using Excel. In short, someone who enjoys and thrives in finding solutions to complex problems.
Strong IT skills across a range of software, the ability to pick up new software quickly and a ‘can-do’ attitude to approaching new tasks
Excellent people skills and the ability to work as part of a team, but can also immerse themselves into complex individual tasks, where needed
It would advantageous (but not essential) to have: knowledge/experience in traffic modelling (trip generation and distribution methodologies, junction modelling etc); experience of Transport Assessments/Statements and Travel Plans; CAD design skills (particularly in relation to junction or car park design)
Degree qualified in a relevant subject (preferably with an MSc in Transport Planning but other related degree disciplines include Civil Engineering, Geography, Planning and Maths – although this is not an exclusive list).
